OPPORTUNITIES TO
SERVE
Great Expectations
Team
The mission statement of the
Great Expectations Team is “Invite, Embrace, and Include.” Within the team are
three smaller teams in which each team addresses one of the mission statement’s
activities. These three teams are the Invitation Team, Welcome Team and
Assimilation Team. Each team employs successful techniques recommended by
prominent church consultants. The Invitation Team invites people into church,
primarily through advertising and promotion. The Welcome Team seeks to help our
church guests feel welcomed and loved once they are on the church premises. The
Assimilation Team helps our returning guests discover their gifts and passions
so that they can find purpose, connection, and fulfillment in ministry. G.E.T.
has plans to expand its ministry with additional new and exciting activities
during 2008.
Fellowship
Committee
The Fellowship
Committee coordinates connectional activities within the congregation, such as
the church picnic, Easter breakfast, and Jerome Christmas desserts. For more
information, contact Kathy Grauer (799-8917).
Fellowship Time
The Fellowship Committee asks people from the congregation to be responsible for
Fellowship Time on Sunday mornings, allowing everyone in the church to be
involved. Not only will this spread the responsibility, but it will be a way of
getting to know others whom you previously may not have known. The schedule
works out to be about one Sunday per year.
Persons/families listed for 9:30
are asked to put out cups, sugar, creamer, utensils, and juice on the large
table in the narthex (lobby) by 9:15 a.m., put the rolling cart with the coffee
urn behind the table and assist people with their beverages (coffee will already
be made) between worship and Sunday school. After Sunday school begins, people
will serve themselves beverages.
Persons/families listed for 10:45 are asked to put away supplies and
empty and clean coffee pots and any dirty dishes after the 10:45
service begins or after the service.
Parish Wellness
Committee
The Parish Wellness
Committee provides monthly blood pressure screening, periodic diabetes
screening, various health care, food, and self defense programs and information,
and training and sample workouts for the church weight room and exercise area.
The committee also provides special care ministries, including a meal team for
members in need. Contact Shelly Detwiler, 937-642-4843 for more information.
Missions Team
The Missions Team
coordinates mission ministries and helps select the mission projects to which we
give monetary support. Additionally the mission team keeps us involved in such
hands-on ministries as the Plain City and Dublin Food Pantries, the Columbus
Free Store and Church for All People, Habitat for Humanity, Marysville Personal
Needs Pantry, and countless other service opportunities. The Missions Team
sponsors adult mission trips to the Appalachian Service Project and to Honduras.
For information about mission projects and service opportunities, call Lynn
Boston (764-3626).
Soup for the Soul
Each Friday afternoon, soup, sandwiches, fruit and dessert is provided by adults
and teens from Jerome UMC at the Church for All People in downtown Columbus. To
donate food or go to serve, contact Melinda Murphy, 614-766-9002.
Habitat for
Humanity
On the third Saturday of
each month, volunteers from Jerome UMC help build a house with Habitat for
Humanity. The work day runs from 8:30 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. For more
information or to volunteer to help, call Dave Altfater, 614-889-8421.
Gardening Team
A group of people plant
perennials and annuals and maintain the planting beds around the church. If
you would like to volunteer to help, call Pauline Scott (889-9813). A
vegetable garden is also planted to provide fresh vegetables for Soup for the
Soul. If you would like to volunteer, call Dawn Stanko (336-3708).
